Unmasking Team Mayer
Discover the truth behind David R. Mayer, his team and his cult like followers.

A Member Of The Norcross "Can Do Club"
George Norcross, a prominent Democratic power broker in New Jersey, has faced significant legal scrutiny, particularly concerning racketeering charges.
The Boss
George Norcross is widely considered the quintessential "political boss" and "power broker" of Southern New Jersey. His influence is not derived from elected office but from his control over a sprawling network of political, business, and philanthropic entities.
As journalist Steve Kornacki observed in 2011, "It's not written down anywhere, but it's acknowledged by everyone...You don't run for office as a Democrat in South Jersey unless George is OK with it—and you don't win in the fall without him". His influence also extends to a "pay-to-play" system that directs business donations to campaigns to secure government contracts. Norcross's network has historically been a force in state politics, forged through key alliances with figures like his childhood friend and former State Senate President Steve Sweeney and, at times, with Republican Governor Chris Christie.
The Puppet
David Mayer's career serves as a case study in how the Norcross network operates, elevating loyal allies to positions of power. His career path is a sequential line of power within the machine: he started as an aide to Congressman Rob Andrews, whose seat was later assumed by George Norcross’s brother, Donald. This professional trajectory continued with his role as Chief of Staff for the Camden County Clerk, a position that placed him at the heart of the Camden County Democratic organization and solidified his allegiance to the regional power structure.
Mayer’s personal and professional life further reinforces his embeddedness. The fact that his wife serves as the Camden County Surrogate ties his family directly into the system of patronage and influence. Mayer's career path and his family's position within the county's administration are direct reflections of the machine’s ability to cultivate and elevate trusted individuals. His success is not accidental; it is a clear example of the machine's strategic deployment of power to maintain its dominance and reward its loyal members.
